Job Summary

This is an hourly position serving clients in the North Fraser Service Delivery Area (Burnaby, New Westminster, Tri-cities community, and Ridge Meadows. The Worker provides safe transportation primarily to children and youth ages 0-18 who are in the care of the Ministry, who demonstrate a range of behaviours and needs, and who may exhibit challenging behaviours.  The key purpose is to safely transport and provide support to children and youth who have experience adverse life events. Various positions (f/t and p/t).

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Transport family members to visit site, if needed, within the guidelines of confidentiality and prevention of possible violent situations.
  • Supporting children and youth who demonstrate arrange of behaviours and needs, and who may exhibit challenging behaviours.
  • Establish guidelines with children and adults about limits on physical contact and signals to be used if they are feeling uncomfortable and want the visit to end.
  • If warranted, meet parents and foster parents separately and ensure that they do not come in contact with one another to ensure safety and confidentiality. (When directed by Social Worker).
  • Monitor parent-child interactions for safety and appropriateness (When directed by Social Worker).
  • Complete specific training where necessary to provide service to a particular child or youth.
  • Provide teaching and guidance to parents, if warranted, re: communication, appropriate child management etc... (When directed by Social Worker).
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records, statistics. 
Education and Qualifications
  • Child and Youth Care Worker Certificate, diploma or a degree; or a degree in a comparable human/social services field.
  • Two years’ Experience working with children, youth; preferable with special needs children/youth.
  • Knowledge of child development.
  • Ability to identify health and safety issues for children and youth.
  • Proficient instructional skills.
  • Good organization, time and interpersonal skills.
  • A valid driver’s license & current vehicle insurance, and clear driving abstract.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the business community, other program staff, therapists, social workers, other related staff and professional consultants and families.
  • Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training or the MANDT system is an asset.
  • Significant computer skills preferred.
Other Information
Working Conditions:
  • Flexibility to work split-shifts including evenings and weekends is required.
  • Must have class 5 driver’s license, provided drivers abstract; Own Vehicle preferred for this position ? Attend mandatory agency day training/presentations.
  • Union membership is required for this position.
  • Current First Aid, Clear Criminal Record Check, and Clear Drivers Abstract
