Heathy Babies Program TriCities
November 23, 2016

The Healthy Babies Program was featured in BC Lung Association:

Helen Rex, Healthy Babies Program Coordinator was recently featured in the BC Lung Association’s News article “Healthy Babies and Healthier Mothers”.  Helen shares how Healthy Babies program supports pregnant women and new mothers who need extra help, but have limited financial resources. On a daily basis, she oversees the program, connects with women from the community, and presents topics related to pregnancy, childbirth, nutrition, child development, and self-care. She feels proud to provide a group environment where women feel welcome and supported. In the course of her work, Helen encounters pregnant women and new mothers who smoke cigarettes. Though it’s not a program requirement that they quit, she tries her best to find ways to encourage it for those who are interested.

WFC Re-accreditation Update 2017
October 17, 2017

WFC Re-accreditation Update 2017Westcoast Family Centres is an accredited organization and is currently in the process of preparing for our fifth reaccreditation.  Accreditation is mandatory and is required in order to receive funding from the Ministry of Child and Family Development (MCFD) and is essential in securing financial support from other organizations in the private sector.Reaccreditation is conducted every 4 years by our accreditation body, Council on Accreditation (COA).  Social Services organizations such as WFC, are required to demonstrate implementation of a core set of standards which includes an in-depth review of WFC’s services, administration and management functions.  WFC must meet each of the twelve core standards for Accreditation to merit reaccreditation. The timeframe for completing the entire reaccreditation process is from 12-18 months.   WFC management has set up a steering committee consisting of four Managers to oversee all the activities and tasks required to complete the reaccreditation process within these timeframes.  Currently, the committee is in the process of preparing evidence of implementation of COA standards that includes:

  1. Preparation of a Self-Study, which serves as the first source of evidence, consists of a variety of documents, policies and procedures, narratives and forms submitted electronically to COA by March 10th, 2017.  A Preliminary Self-Study (PSS) is submitted few weeks prior to the full Self-Study including some key documents.   The COA peer review team reviews this evidence to gain an understanding of how our organization functions prior to their site visit.
  1. Preparation of On-Site Evidence consists of documentation including:  Management, Board and other relevant committee meeting minutes; Orientation and Training curriculum and attendance records; Financial records; Personnel Files; Client Files; Maintenance and Inspection records; Program informational materials etc. The On-Site Documents includes evidence that needs to be readily available for the COA reviewers when visiting our site.
  1. Preparation of a Site Visit, which is scheduled approximately three months after our organization submits our Self-Study.  Having already reviewed our Self-Study, we are visited by a team of specially trained Peer Reviewers who will meet with us, our staff, clients and board of directors to verify and clarify the level of implementation of all of the applicable standards.  COA site visit is scheduled for July 10th, 2017.
