Our Family Preservation and Reunification program provides support for families with low to moderate risks referred by the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD). Usually, the families we work with are facing domestic violence, addiction, and mental health concerns.
In this program, our team works closely with parents and/or caregivers to develop goals for the family, reduce risks, and prevent out-of-home placements. In this program, we typically meet with families in their own homes.
Family Workers first initiate a check-in to understand the family’s dynamic. Then, alongside the parents and/or caregivers, they co-create a plan that addresses goals of the family and ensures the continued safety of the child(ren). When necessary, we also link families to formal and informal community resources such as doula services, parenting groups, and other community services that would benefit the family.
In some cases, we also work with families who need additional hands-on support in the home or who require intervention. Often, these circumstances are timely and are viewed as emergencies. Many families who are struggling experience difficulties in multiple ways, which can sometimes result in poor living conditions. For example, hoarding is a common situation that requires intervention to ensure the safety of the family.
The Home Support program supports families on a voluntary basis providing 12-20 hours of support over an 8 to 12 week period
The Crisis Response program provides intensive support to families in crisis for a period of 2 weeks until longer term services can be put in place.
This program is only available in Vancouver and requires a referral from the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
Cash gifts allow us to go above and beyond for families, helping them to reach their full potential even faster.
